About the Temple

Located on the Arabian Sea coast in Bhatkal, this temple is famous for the 123-foot (37 meter) tall statue of Lord Shiva, the second tallest Shiva statue in India. The temple is surrounded by sea on three sides.

History: According to legend, the temple is associated with the story of Ravana carrying the Atma Linga. The linga piece (mukha) is believed to be the face part of the original Atma Linga.

Significance: The temple offers a unique beachfront spiritual experience. The towering Shiva statue is visible from miles away. The temple also has a 20-story high gopuram.
