About the Temple

Located in Nanjangud, Mysore district, this is one of the most important Shiva temples in Karnataka. The 5-foot tall Shivalinga is believed to have been established by Lord Rama. The temple is known as 'Dakshina Kashi'.

History: The temple was built in the 9th century by the Ganga dynasty and later expanded by the Hoysalas and Vijayanagara rulers. The temple tank is believed to cure diseases.

Significance: The temple is famous for its powerful healing waters. Thousands perform abhishekam here on Mondays. The temple has a unique 4-pillared hall with intricate carvings.
